Gin & Tonic Spritz

The G&T spritz is not a new concept, combining gin with a carbonated water, juice, or wine does not make you an alchemist, however, for a low ABV session cocktail it is hard to beat. The refreshing zip and tang of a Gin and Tonic is enhanced with a generous splash of Prosecco, or any dry sparkling wine, which gives this summer cocktail a roundedness like no other. The botanical tang of Gin and effervescent citrussy zip of tonic water meets the fruity yet dry Prosecco to create a balance of bubbles and flavour that will surprise you.

Wherever you might find yourself enjoying a gin and tonic spritz this summer, you will most certainly be thinking to yourself, “This is a classy summer tipple”. The G&T is already a favourite among cocktail aficionados, but what better way to make it a long drink than by adding Prosecco. Combining a G&T with Prosecco takes an already classy cocktail and gives it a splash of elegance; it is perfect for any summer social occasion, and as its three main ingredients are readily available pretty much everywhere there is no excuse not to try one for yourself! The best part is that this cocktail is relatively low in alcohol, but high in flavour. It is dry enough that you won’t be downing it in minutes, but more-ish enough that it won’t go warm in your hand either.

The low-ABV cocktail movement is one of the defining trends of 2026, and this Gin & Tonic Spritz is the perfect example of how you can reduce alcohol without sacrificing flavor or sophistication. At roughly 8-10% ABV, this is genuine session territory. You can enjoy two or three over an afternoon and remain perfectly coherent. The Prosecco adds a softness and extra effervescence, while the tonic provides a citrussy, bitterness, the botanicals of the gin still shine through, but are supported rather than dominant.

Use a large wine glass (not a highball) for this—the wider opening allows the aromatics to develop, and it feels more elegant.

Ingredients
  •  30ml Gin
  •  60ml Prosecco (or any dry sparkling wine)
  •  60ml Premium tonic water
  •  Fresh grapefruit or lemon for garnish
  •  Fresh herbs (rosemary or basil work beautifully)
Method
  1. Fill a large wine glass with ice.
  2. Add the gin, then the tonic water.
  3. Pour in the Prosecco slowly to preserve the bubbles.
  4. Give it the gentlest stir—just one rotation.
  5. Garnish with a grapefruit or lemon wheel and a sprig of fresh rosemary or basil.

Variation: Add 15ml of elderflower liqueur (St-Germain) for a sweeter, more floral version. Or try it with pink grapefruit juice (15ml) for a bitter-citrus twist.
